- Wildlife Habitat Council-bluebird monitoring program by more than 30 BMS employees at 20 hrs/yr.
- Sustainable Lawrence – non-profit, 1 BMS employee at 10 hrs/yr.
- Sustainable Lawrence was awarded monetary grants in 2006-2009 by BMS.
- State of New Jersey Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program, Recognition Award for Outstanding Performance
- New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection - Environmental Stewardship Initiative recipient for its voluntary and proactive measures taken to go beyond compliance in an effort to improve the environment and ensure a sustainable future.

Environmental Health and Safety

- Increased number of bluebird nest boxes monitored from 55 to 75 which increases land area monitored by approx. 15 acres.
- Coopers hawk is the site sponsored endangered species
- In 2010, the BMS LVL site constructed a turtle beach for local turtle species to enrich the turtle laying habitat
- In 2009, received New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Stewardship Award
- Water Conservation Team meets to provide ideas to help reduce water usage.
- Increased Central Utilities cooling water cycle times to reduce use of make-up water.
- In 2007, the BMS LVL site completed a 3 yr. Aquascape program by planting emerging vegetation around the entire 15 acre lake shore (to reduce nutrient loading) as part of the Lake Management Program.
- In April 2009, the BMS LVL site planted 200 spruce tree seedlings, in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint at its Earth Day/Go Green activities.
- In July 2009, the BMS LVL site completed a site flora and fauna inventory. A native species seed planting at the pond rip rap areas was completed to further enhance existing plantings on site.
