Environmental, Health and Safety has an environmental educational program for the children of employees and contractors. Nearly 350 children, ranging from four to 12 years old, attend and learn many things about environmental protection through games, painting, recycling activities and lectures.

Environmental Performance

Environmental sustainability is one of the top priorities at the São Paulo facility. Its Environmental Management System was recognized as a best practice by the state environmental agency resulting in an extension of the validity of the Bristol-Myers Squibb environmental license.

  • Each year the facility managers draft environmental plans to reduce consumption of water, energy, and minimization of waste generation.
  • The facility uses environment-friendly refrigeration gas.

A program for awareness and control of pollutants emitted by trucks driven inside the company premises by suppliers and service providers has been implented. More than 200 trucks per year have been inspected.

Health Performance

  • Our São Paulo managers conduct health campaigns promoted by EHS, including ergonomic programs, flu vaccinations, visual health, and cardiovascular disease prevention, among others.
  • Workout series were developed for each section and stretching exercises were implemented. Employees exercise 15 minutes at the beginning of each shift. The exercise program includes administrative areas.

Safety Performance

Health and safety is a priority of the facility. Significant improvements have been made in accident prevention over the last few years. The basis for reducing the number of accidents and preventing injuries/illness is anticipating the risks present in the activities. The facility is working hard to increase the number of near misses reported by employees. These near misses show unsafe conditions or unsafe attitudes that could have led to an accident. There is a hotline (Disque Segurança - extension 2005) which employees can use to report any near miss or unsafe condition to EHS staff.

Another action that supports accident prevention is the periodical communication to employees of the accidents/near misses that have occurred in the facility. Every week a bulletin with summary of accidents/ near misses is distributed by e-mail.
