Bristol-Myers
Squibb is proud to receive awards and public recognition for our environmental,
economic, and social performance. On this page we highlight a few of our
most recent awards. In addition, many of our facilities have received public acknowledgment for their performance in their own
right.
- In November 2007, Bristol-Myers Squibb earned "best in class" status for its leading environmental and social performance on the basis of Storebrand Investments' 2007 pharmaceutical industry overview, and therefore qualifies for investment in Storebrand's socially responsible investment (SRI) mandates. Storebrand Investments has approximately €25 billion in assets under management. It monitors and analyses the environmental and social performance of more than 2,600 companies.
- In November 2007, Bristol-Myers Squibb was recognized for outstanding achievement in community relations by the New Jersey Human Relations Council and received the Achievement by a Corporation Award. The award was presented during the 2007 Unity Achievement Awards Ceremony at the 12th Annual New Jersey Human Relations Council Leadership Conference.
- In October 2007, Bristol-Myers Squibb was named as a Top Company for Working Mothers by Working Mother magazine. This is the tenth consecutive year that the company has made the prestigious list of the 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers.
- In September 2007 for the second year in a row, Bristol-Myers Squibb has achieved the highest rating from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in its sixth annual Corporate Equality Index. The company was recognized for its competitive benefits and protections offered to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees.
- In May 2007, John Damonti, President of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, received the 2007 Robert W. Scrivner Award for Creative Grantmaking as a result of the Foundation's work through SECURE THE FUTURE. With a gesture characteristic of the program, the $10,000 prize money was donated to the Bambisanani Project, a non-governmental organization in South Africa that provides comprehensive, home-based care for people living with HIV/AIDS.
- Goldman Sachs rated Bristol-Myers Squibb a Sustainable Investing Leader in their May 2007 global pharmaceutical sector report.
- Bristol-Myers Squibb received runner up for Best Sustainability Report in the Ceres-ACCA North American Awards for Sustainability Reporting in April 2007. Ceres-ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) are two socially responsible investment organizations that sponsor the awards to recognize exemplary reporting on sustainability performance by corporations.
- In March 2007 for the sixth consecutive year, the National Association for Female Executives selected Bristol-Myers Squibb as one of the Top 2007 Companies for Executive Women. Companies on this year's list of 35 companies must have at least two women on the board, a significant number of women in senior ranks and programs and policies that support women's advancement.
- In January 2007 for the seventh year in a row, Bristol-Myers Squibb was chosen a Top Organization for Multicultural Business Opportunities for 2006 through an online poll sponsored by DiversityBusiness.com. The award — also known as the Div50 — is a list of the top 50 U.S. companies that purchase products and services from women- and minority-owned companies. The award recognizes Bristol-Myers Squibb's commitment to Supplier Diversity.
- In the Covalence Pharmaceutical Industry Report for 2007, Bristol-Myers Squibb was ranked second for Ethical Quote Reputation.
- In August 2006, the $150 million SECURE THE FUTURE program—an innovative, comprehensive, initiative of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, received the first Pan African Health Award for Excellence and Innovation in the category of Public Private Partnerships. The awards, in six categories, recognized companies and organizations whose health initiatives exemplify excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
- In the October 2006 Global Pharmaceutical Sector Report released by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, Bristol-Myers Squibb ranked 6 out of 44 firms with a "AA" rating.
- In September 2006, Bristol-Myers Squibb was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index of leading sustainability-driven companies in North America. The Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index selects companies based on a systematic corporate sustainability assessment that identifies the leading sustainability-driven companies in each industry group.
- In June 2006, Bristol-Myers Squibb ranked number one among pharmaceutical companies and received the only overall A+ grading for environmental and social—also known as sustainability—reporting, according to the Roberts Environmental Center, an environmental research institute at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California. The organization looked at the largest 30 companies in the pharmaceutical sector of the 2005 Fortune Global 500 and Fortune 1000.
- In March 2006 for the fifth consecutive year, Bristol-Myers Squibb was selected by the National Association for Female Executives as one of the Top 30 Companies for Executive Women. Companies on the Top 30 list must have at least two women on the board, a significant number of women in senior ranks (compared to men and to the company population) and programs and policies that support women's advancement.
- In September 2005, the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC) gave its 2005 Community Award for Business Excellence to Bristol-Myers Squibb for SECURE THE FUTURE. The company was one of six honored by GBC for making innovative contributions to fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
- In August 2005, Bristol-Myers Squibb ranked third among the top corporate charitable contributors, according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. The company was one of four pharmaceutical companies making up the list of the top five largest corporate donors in combined cash and product giving.
- In May 2005, Bristol-Myers Squibb employees in Plainsboro, New Jersey, were honored with the State of New Jersey Governor's Safety Award for "excellence in workplace safety during which 16,864,819 hours were accumulated without a lost-time injury from 4/14/2000 to 12/31/2004."
- Bristol-Myers Squibb's Indiana Technical Operations team was one of two pharmaceutical company teams that took First Place in the inaugural Team of the Year award sponsored by Putman Media and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing magazine. The awards recognize manufacturing teams that have made outstanding improvements in efficiency and quality at their manufacturing sites. Bristol-Myers Squibb won in the large-scale projects category, for its efforts at the company's Evansville and Mt. Vernon, Indiana, facilities.
- Bristol-Myers Squibb received DIVERSION magazine's 2005 "Spirit of Volunteerism" award in the category of AIDS Initiatives. The company was honored for SECURE THE FUTURE — an unprecedented $150 million commitment to help fight HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
- The German corporate social responsibility rating agency oekom research AG released in April 2005 its ranking of the world's 27 largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Bristol-Myers Squibb ranked among the top five for social and environmental performance. The evaluations by oekom research are used by managers responsible for funds with a total value of over one billion euros.
- Bristol-Myers Squibb is ranked 22 out of the world's top 50 corporate environmental and sustainability reporters, according to a joint report by SustainAbility, the United Nations Environmental Programme, and Standard and Poor's. Published in 2004, the report Risk and Opportunities: Best Practices in Non-Financial Reporting, ranks Bristol-Myers Squibb among the top two pharmaceutical companies and top three U.S.-based companies. Bristol-Myers Squibb is one of a select few companies to make the top 50 list in all three benchmark surveys of corporate non-financial reporting by SustainAbility and UNEP.
- Bristol-Myers Squibb sites at Moreton and Chester, United Kingdom, were jointly named winners of the Wirral Investment Network Making a Difference Award 2005. This coveted regional award was developed by a wide range of local businesses operating in northwest England to recognize and highlight companies and their best practices that support local communities in the areas of education, health, charities, volunteer groups, and community engagement.
- The Calvert Group, a leader in socially responsible investing, has created the Calvert Social Index, a broad-based, rigorously constructed benchmark for measuring the performance of U.S.-based socially responsible companies. In February 2003, Bristol-Myers Squibb was added to its Social Index of companies because it met Calvert's criteria for social progress.
